The program intensively prepares students to complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Successful completion of the programme enables enrolment at universities in Slovenia and abroad.  <\/p><p>Enrolment requirements:<\/p><ul><li>age 16 to 17;<\/li><li>completion of the second year of high school (four-year programme) in the 2026\/27 school year with an overall academic performance of at least \u201cvery good\u201d;<\/li><li>an academic performance of at least \u201cvery good\u201d in the subjects of Slovenian, Italian, or Hungarian as a native language, English, and mathematics;<\/li><li>\u2022 Active participation in cultural and sports activities, as well as participation in various competitions (national, Olympiads) in mathematics, languages, natural sciences, computer science, and similar subjects.<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>Application process:<\/p><ul><li>Students must submit their application using a special form, which they can obtain\u2014along with information about the International Baccalaureate programme\u2014from the Gimnazija Be\u017eigrad website;<\/li><li>The application must be accompanied by a photocopy of the first-year report card and a transcript of second-year grades;<\/li><li>evidence of participation and success in extracurricular activities and proof of achievements in competitions.<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>Candidates must send their application with the required documentation by certified mail to the school, marked \u201cIB 2027,\u201d in March 2027 (the exact date will be announced later). It is administered by the International Baccalaureate (IB), a nonprofit educational organization headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The programme is designed for students who wish to develop critical thinking, research skills, and international understanding, and to prepare for study at universities in Slovenia and abroad.  <\/p><p>The IB provides the curriculum, external assessment, and teacher training, and ensures the quality of programme implementation in all authorized schools worldwide.<\/p><p> <\/p><p><strong>Curriculum<\/strong><\/p><p>Students select six subjects, of which three or four must be at the Higher Level (HL), and the remainder at the Standard Level (SL).<\/p><p>At Gimnazija Be\u017eigrad, we offer the following subjects:<\/p><p> <\/p><p>Group 1 \u2013 Language and Literature<\/p><ul><li>Slovenian A \u2013 HL<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>Group 2 \u2013 Language Acquisition<\/p><ul><li>English \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><li>German \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><li>French \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><li>Spanish\u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>Group 3 \u2013 Individuals and Societies<\/p><ul><li>Economics \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><li>Philosophy \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><li>Geography \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><li>Psychology \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><li>Social and Cultural Anthropology \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><li>History \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>Group 4 \u2013 Natural Sciences<\/p><ul><li>Biology \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><li>Physics \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><li>Chemistry \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><li>Computer Science \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>Group 5 \u2013 Mathematics<\/p><ul><li>Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><li>Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>Group 6 \u2013 Art<\/p><ul><li>Visual Arts \u2013 HL \/ SL<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>Instead of a course from Group 6, a student may choose an additional course from Groups 2, 3, or 4 (depending on the course schedule and course availability).   <\/p><p>Elective courses are offered only if a sufficient number of students enrol in them.<\/p><p>Diploma Programme Core<\/p><p>In addition to the six subjects, all students must complete three required components of the program:<\/p><ul><li>Extended Essay (EE) \u2013 an independent research project of approximately 4,000 words.<\/li><li>Theory of Knowledge (TOK) \u2013 an interdisciplinary subject that encourages reflection on the nature of knowledge and the critical evaluation of information.<\/li><li>Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) \u2013 a programme that promotes personal development through creative, athletic, and volunteer activities.<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p><strong>Assessment<\/strong><\/p><p>Each subject is graded on a scale from 1 to 7, with 7 being the highest grade. In addition to subject grades, a student can earn up to 3 additional points for successfully completing TOK and the extended essay, meaning a maximum of 45 points can be achieved in total. To receive the diploma unconditionally, students must earn a grade of 4 in each of the six subjects (24 points) and satisfactorily complete the TOK course, the extended essay, and CAS\u2014the required elective components.  <\/p><p>To earn the International Baccalaureate Diploma, candidates must successfully fulfil all programme requirements in accordance with the rules of the International Baccalaureate Organization.<\/p><p>Subject selection<\/p><p>Upon enrolment, students select six subjects according to the following guidelines:<\/p><ul><li>Slovenian is a required subject at the Higher Level,<\/li><li>English and Mathematics are required subjects (depending on the selected level),<\/li><li>students must select one subject from the Individuals and Societies group and one from the Natural Sciences group,<\/li><li>the sixth subject may be a subject from the Arts group or an additional subject from Groups 2, 3, or 4.  <\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>Due to the organization of classes, certain subject combinations are not possible when selecting the sixth subject.<\/p><p> <\/p><p><strong>Recognition of the Diploma<\/strong><\/p><p>The International Baccalaureate Diploma is recognized by universities around the world, including Slovenian higher education institutions.
