Active citizenship

Active Citizenship is a compulsory 35-hour component of the secondary school curriculum. Unlike regular classes, it is carried out through activities that take place outside the classroom.

Its main objective is to encourage the development of active, informed, and responsible democratic citizens.

Through various activities and visits to institutions, students learn about the functioning of the political system of the Republic of Slovenia, the institutions of the European Union, the importance of Slovenia’s membership in the EU, and the basic principles of the economy, while also promoting awareness of the importance of sustainable development and media freedom in modern society.
